The holiday season is right around the corner and that means it’s time for holiday mini sessions! Whether you’re updating your family portraits, sending out festive cards, or just want to capture this magical time of year, your outfits play a big role in how your photos turn out.
As your photographer, my goal is to help you feel confident, coordinated, and seasonally stylish for your session. I’ve even put together an Amazon storefront with handpicked outfit ideas for the whole family — making it easy to shop and prep with less stress.
Let’s talk about what to wear!
Instead of going ultra matchy-matchy, choose 2–3 coordinating colors that fit the holiday vibe. Some of my favorite color palettes for mini sessions include:
🎄 Classic Holiday: deep green, cranberry red, cream, and gold
☃️ Winter Neutral: ivory, taupe, gray, and dusty blue
✨ Elegant & Moody: forest green, black, wine, and metallics
Start with one person as the “anchor outfit” and coordinate everyone else’s look around that.
Textures add depth to photos, especially in cooler months. Think:
These cozy layers not only photograph beautifully but also keep everyone warm during outdoor sessions.
3. Keep Patterns MinimalPlaid can be festive, but avoid putting the whole family in bold prints. Stick with one or two patterned pieces and balance them out with solid, complementary colors.
Pro tip: Thin stripes and busy patterns can cause distortion in photos (called “moire”). Keep it simple when in doubt!
To make things simple, I’ve curated an Amazon wishlist just for you with clothing options that photograph beautifully. You’ll find:
Everything’s chosen with photography in mind: soft fabrics, flattering fits, and classic colors that won’t date your photos.
I can’t wait to photograph your family this season! Whether you go glam, cozy, or classic — the most important thing is that you feel like yourself.
