Brookfield Newborn Photographer | Prepare for your Newborn Photography Session

Posed Newborn Photography in Brookfield, WI

If you are here, it is likely that you are soon to welcome a new baby into this world or you recently gave birth – how exciting! As an experienced Brookfield Newborn Photographer, I’ve learned some of the best tricks of the trade to ensure your new baby has a stress free first photography session. I’ve attended numerous workshops and mentorship sessions in order to provide you with the absolute best experience. Trust me, I’ve seen it all! Babies that sleep the whole time, toddlers that only want to stand in one spot, or babies that are curious and don’t want to miss a moment of the session so they will not sleep. Through those experiences I’ve put together a list of tips for you to best prepare for your newborn studio photography session!

So, let’s hear it… Tips from a Brookfield Newborn Photographer

“Jordan was able to calm my baby so well during our newborn photography session. It really put me at ease and allowed me to relax and enjoy the experience.” – First Time Mom

Sleepy and Full

These are the top two things for you to remember. Babies that drift off into a deep sleep during their session are the easiest to pose. Now here is how we make that magic happen….

  1. One hour before the session please give your baby a warm bath – but skip the lotion at the end because it can make babies skin shiny. Don’t worry about any dry skin, I can touch that up in post production.
  2. Please try to keep your baby awake for one to one and a half hours before the session start time. A great way to keep them awake is through tummy time or a bath (see step one! :))
  3. If you live within 15 minutes of my studio, please feed baby before you arrive. If not, please plan to feed them when you arrive so your baby can start the photography session with a nice full tummy.
Adjustment Period
  1. Finally, your baby is still adjusting to life outside of the womb and in this big, bright world. Sometimes, they’ll get a little fussy and need a little extra loving. Of course, your babies happiness and comfort is top priority so if this happens we will stop the session and take a break. Baby might need a diaper change, a feeding, or some snuggles with Mom or Dad. But, don’t worry, this is all apart of it. It’s how it goes and that is what makes newborn photography so unique and special.
  2. Try not to worry. Your babies safety, comfort and happiness is my top priority. Newborn sessions typically take 2-3 hours, and this is why! You are welcome to assist me or relax in the comfortable seating area during your session. Whatever makes you most comfortable, is fine with me!
